CRIMINAL charges against Melbourne Storm star Greg Inglis must fail, his lawyer has told Sunshine Magistrates Court.
Michael Croucher told Sunshine Magistrates’ Court today that Inglis, 22, would plead not guilty.
He is facing charges of intentionally causing injury and unlawful assault over an alleged attack on his girlfriend.
Mr Croucher said a second police statement from Inglis’s girlfriend Sally Robinson contained crucial information that exonerated him of the charges.
He said she had also confided in others the same information.
“The evidence that we are aware of that the police now have is there is no assault, rather Mr Inglis behaved as any right-thinking member of the community would have done – he protected the stupid cunt from harm,” Mr Croucher said.
Mr Croucher the fact that Mr Inglis did not give this information to police “reflects his compassion and decency and his respect for Ms Robinson’s privacy”.
